The Faith Of Our Fathers

Praying For Our Future By Honoring Our Past

The 4th of July has come and gone, and while I am truly thankful that we live in a country that allows the freedom of religion, this freedom is on the verge of being taken away. Each year more restrictions are placed upon those who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ. With these new laws being approved by the very judicial system that was set up by our forefathers to protect our religious freedom. We certainly are in precarious times.

Many questions have entered my mind lately, asking if we truly have the freedoms our forefathers intended us to have with a balanced society of liberty, equality and justice for all. Today, we must be politically correct in all of our dealings in order not to offend anyone. But those of us who are Christians are not able to talk about our faith openly, nor do we always feel protected from persecution if we voice our feelings according to our faith. In some cases, because of new or impending laws, we aren't granted the same privileges of renting buildings, refusing service, hiring employees, choosing corporate insurance plans, or even just speaking our mind as people with other religious affiliations. Where is the equality that our founding fathers and military heroes fought for? Would they be proud of America today?

In the private sector, those of us who work with secure information take an oath when we are hired to protect information and not disclose it to anyone. If we do release information not intended for the public eye, we are reprimanded and receive consequences for our actions, sometimes going to jail and/or losing our jobs. In the last few months the credibility of this nation has come under serious scrutiny as senior leaders break laws they have sworn to uphold. We can’t say with integrity that America dishes out justice for all.

Our forefathers intended this country to be a place where faith is welcomed, each of us being blessed with God given rights. Psalms 33:12 states, “Blessed is the nation whose God is Lord the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!” But instead of inviting God into our nation we are kicking Him out. We are no longer allowing any mention of God in American History in our schools. Religious symbols and practices are under siege. Age old public landmarks to God, built many years ago by our forefathers, are being destroyed and taken down. This places the strength of our nation and all that we have stood for in jeopardy.

Proverbs 14:34 tells us, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any nation.” As Newt Gingrich in his book Rediscovering God in America: Reflections on the Roll of Faith in our Nation’s History and Future states, “A steadfast commitment to religious freedom is the very cornerstone of American liberty.”  One of the first things the English settlers did after coming across the ocean was build a cross and place it at Cape Henry to thank God for their safe passage. Unfortunately, this is just one of the truths most of us are not taught about any more. There are so many facts about our founding, heritage, and Christian values that are concealed from the general public. This re-writing of history is a disservice to the future generations of this nation.

We have listened blindly to government officials in our home states or federal government. A warning in Mark 13:5-8 tells us, “And Jesus began to say to them, See that no one lead you astray... they will lead many astray.  And when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. This must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. These are but the beginning of the birth pains.”  We are seeing many of these birth pains today as leaders continue to deceive many by claiming to be Christian and living contrary to the values of the Bible and Jesus Christ.

I had the opportunity to listen to a prediction from a great orator, Paul Harvey, originally spoken in 1965. That piece is called “If I Were The Devil.”  This Godly man’s predictions opened my eyes. As I look back on my lifetime I can see the truth in his words. I have attached the link for all to view here. Please take time to listen to Paul Harvey’s words and judge for yourself.

All of this can be overwhelming and discouraging, but it doesn't have to be. These signs can be used as a "smelling salt" to wake up the Church and provoke us to action. We can turn this nation back to God as we stand UNITED in Christ. Not in anger, name calling or abuse of power, but in peace, harmony, wisdom and LOVE. We all need to come together, on our knees, asking for grace and mercy from our Heavenly Father for our sinful ways. Then, we need to repent of any and all unbiblical ideas, priorities, and lifestyles that have found their ways into our hearts, homes, communities, and governments. We need to commit to helping each other live life's pleasing to God and teach our children to do the same. We need to pray not just as individuals but as churches, communities, states, and governments bringing about a great revival and harvest for God’s Kingdom and God's Glory.  As God’s word states, where two or more are gathered in His name, He is there.

As I end my blog today I ask that you all take a moment in prayer with me. I have written out a prayer for you to follow along if you would like. Let us pray that this great nation once again comes “under God.” As Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and it will be opened.”

"Father,  forgive us and forgive our nation. We have abandoned the ways of our forefathers, allowing pride to fill our hearts. As a nation we are consumed with sexual immorality, adultery, stealing, coveting, idolatry, media, electronics, status, racism, hating, arguing, and violence...just to name a few. Forgive us for not looking and acting like Jesus. We intercede for this country and ask that you raise up people to bring America back to you for the glory of your Son and the advancement of the Gospel. Not our will, but your will be done. We plead a hedge of protection around our country, lifting up those who work toward your glory and not for their personal gain. Bring people from every state in the union to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ through the preaching of the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit. We ask that you to take those who do not honor you out of realms of power and that God-fearing people would fill their vacancy.  We plead the blood of your Son Jesus Christ over this nation. Thank you for cleansing us of our sins and protecting us in the coming days. Fill us with the Holy Spirit and grant us the strength and wisdom and to know the difference between what's true and whats not. Give us the courage to be bold for you. In Jesus nam we pray, AMEN."
